Cross-Cultural Excellence Manifesto:
The cultural diversity that used to characterize gatherings at the United Nations is now occurring in factories, boardrooms and offices all over our nation. So the skills that used to be necessary only for the most well traveled Americans have become imperative for success in the future for everyone.
Cultural damage occurs when people from different cultural backgrounds fail to understand each other. This is called Cross-Cultural Carelessness.
Cross-Cultural Carelessness causes damage that falls onto a continuum of increasing negative impact ranging from inconsequential to severe.
Severe cultural damage is a direct threat to our increasingly diverse 21st century marketplace.
The solution to the problem is Cross-Cultural Excellence – the practice of seeking to understand key cultural differences and leveraging this data to gain desired outcomes.
Cross-Cultural Excellence also falls onto a continuum of increasing positive impact ranging from inconsequential to remarkable.
Small gestures, when informed by cultural understanding, can make the difference between success and failure in our increasingly diverse 21st century marketplace.
